Data Centre              - New Cooling Technologies-          Power Electronics

EC_FP7 Large Project - As world’s largest pan European collaborative nanotechnology project, HENIX aims  to produce nanofluid coolant up to 40% more efficient than traditional one to combat heat build-up. The coolant, with engineered nanoparticles (purpose formulated, optimised and designed during the project), will increase energy efficiency overall reliability.

“Cooling is one of the top challenges facing the data centres and transportation industries “says Prof. Claudio Bruno, Advisor of ISIS R&D* S.r.l partner in the project. “New liquid coolants may positively impact industry processes, will be more economics and eco-friendly. Nanofluid technology developed in HENIX could produce further applications in industrial machinery, medical equipment, space and ground power generation, process industry and in other areas.”

* Using theoretical analysis, modeling, simulation and supporting experiments, ISIS will determine a fundamental understanding of the behavior of the stable nanofluid coolants. A model will then be developed and used to identify those higt performance nanofluids that should be investigated for industrial application. In addition, ISIS will also work to estabilish a clear understandingof the specific industrial requirements of colling in next-generation Data Centres and Power Electronics, in order to evolve and comprehend the implications nanoparticles and the selected target nanofluid pose to Health, Safety, and the Environment throughout its entire Life Cycle.
